Could you?.....Would you?.....Just Ask!
There is a core group of part time disabled volunteers aged sixteen to twenty five, who have looked
into accessibility issues as a whole for disabled young people. They have developed a ‘good
practice’ guide, along with a DVD of their experiences of what can make volunteering accessible
both for a young person with disabilities as well as a tool for employers to learn from and they want
to take the message forward!
The group are called Just Ask! Now they are keen to recruit new members to their team. Young
people will be fully supported, both through a peer mentor co-ordinator, as well as a volunteer
co-ordinator. This project will have a variety of roles to bringing out skills that they may not have
been aware they had, develop new skills they are interested in, as well as link with like minded
people who want to improve their volunteering opportunities. Alongside this, existing volunteers
want to encourage organisations to become more proactive in finding out how they can benefit
from their involvement in the project and possible volunteer opportunities.
Help with travel can be offered to support any barriers to inclusion; however, independent travel is
encouraged as much as possible.
If you know of any young disabled people aged sixteen to twenty five within your organisation, or are
an organisation yourself that live/work within the Birmingham and Solihull area and could benefit
from volunteering opportunities, then feel free to contact:
