Criminal records  Checks are there to validate paid staff and volunteers for their work with children, young people and vulnerable adults. They should be seen as an integral part of any Safeguarding policy and as such should be renewed in line with that policy and for every new post that is taken up.

In addition to the work of the Criminal Records Bureau the government has asked for a new additional body to assist in the overall safeguarding process, this is the Independant Safeguarding Authority, I.S.A. for short.

Once set up, and it is expected to be in place by October 2008, everyone working with chidren, young people and vulunerable adults will be required to register with this body in addition to the C.R.B.

employers will have a period of 4years to complete the necessary registrations at a cost of £64.00 per paid person plus any administration charge made by umberella bodies. For volunteers there is no charge by the I.S.A. but there may well be an administration charge from operating bodies.

For more details please click on the I.S.A. link
