bayc was formed in 1898 by Dame Elizabeth Cadbury and it started its life as the Birmingham Union of Girls Clubs.
In 1942, having evolved, it underwent a change of name to become the Birmingham Union of Girls Clubs and Mixed Clubs, in order to meet with the ever changing needs of young people. These changing needs quickly brought about a further name change, as in 1945 we became the Birmingham Association of Girls and Mixed Clubs.
Still recognising the need to be contempary to its member body and the need to constantly review its image, B.A.G.M.C. became BAYC the Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs in 1960.
The sad passing of Michael Cadbury in 1999 brought to an end close to 101 years of direct input from the Cadbury family.
But, as it was in the past, this moment was siezed upon and recognised as an opportunity to move on. Shortly after, following debate and consultation we began the process of becoming a company by limited guarantee. Then, after dropping the full wording of Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs, in order to recognise our wider work throughout Birmingham and the Black Country, we became simply ..................bayc
