Quiver : Forum Theatre project

After months of involvement, using artists from Drama and Dance to gain a clearer understanding of the Forum Theatre, the dissemination of the project Creating Change in The Community – ‘Quiver’ was in town for one night only!

Three groups – 2nd Productions, All Stars Gallery and Mosseley Youth Group created a piece of Forum Theatre highlighting an issue that they feel has affected them and the community they live in. A full day of rehearsals and technical support, along with discussions of how the young people were feeling about the event was, filmed by One Small Barking Dog. The film was edited on the same day and shown at the interval so that the audience could get a sense of what processes the young people had encountered.

To ensure the event had an audience, a marketing strategy was developed with some young people from the groups. This involved working with a marketing company ‘Big Cat’ over a period of four months. The young people were involved in the design of the publicity, the distribution and gained a much clearer insight of the immense work involved to effectively publicise an event such as this.

Monday 23rd July at the Crescent Theatre, the audience who, under the superb guidance of Terri from Cardboard Citizens, became ‘Spectactors’ (a forum theatre term) where they interacted with the actors on stage and became a part of the sketch.  The event was a must for all young people and workers who are interested in looking at ways to challenge attitudes and oppression, a great way for the wider public to gain an insight of young people’s perception of modern society. The project was funded by the Arts Council.

Special thanks goes out to all the young people who were involved, their workers, families who supported the young people, all at Big Cat, One Small Barking Dog, The Arts Council and background staff at bayc for enabling the event to be the success that it was.
