A group of young people from Darlaston School embarked on a project looking at issues relating to young people through their eyes today. The subjects that the young people covered were teenage pregnancy, cyber bullying, smoking, eating disordes, drugs and under age drinking. Each subject was acted out by young people with them deciding how best to tell the story. What was unique about this proect was that the young people had little drama experience and had written the scripts by themselves. The young people were adamant that they wanted the production of the DVD to reflect the area that they live in and the issues that face them. For twelve weeks the young people gave up their dinner time to take part in the project by producimg the dvd and booklet for young people to use at schools and youth centres, across Walsall.
Young people had control over the project and had to stuggle with the pressures of deadlines and reinacting scences over and over again until they had a perfect shoot for the dvd and booklet. The attention to detail that the young people showed added withthe committment and passion showed will hopefully stand the young people in good stead for the future.
